Looking for some mind blowing tacos in Brooklyn? There are many authentic Mexican spots around NYC, but some of the best tacos in Brooklyn comes from El Jeffe (also known as El Jeffe Modern Mexican Grill), a black owned business.
El Jeffe puts a twist on Mexican food that never disappoints. With two locations in Brooklyn, mouth-watering tacos are never too far!
1. Prospect Lefferts Gardens
2. Bed-Stuy (Bedford Stuyvesant)
Both locations offer a pretty identical menu with a wide range of options like tacos, quesadillas, burritos, rice bowls & more. I'll be rating tacos from the Bed-stuy location on a scale of 1-10.
This post is all about 3 tacos I think you MUST try if you're looking for some of the best tacos in Brooklyn!
3 Mouth-Watering Tacos in Brooklyn From El Jeffe:
1. Fried Shrimp Taco
I don't know what they breaded this with, but they better keep it a secret!
Tried a piece of shrimp alone and it was not greasy at all. This was well seasoned, generously coated and mixed right into the lettuce and cabbage slaw. The slaw was also flavorful and a bit sweet.
Every bite was an eye roll! It was like deja vu. Same flavorful packed punch, same sweetness, same just right amount of chipotle Mayo.
The cotija cheese on top gave it a drool activating flavor without making the taco too cheesy. Lastly, the pickled red onions were the icing on the cake.
I’m going to go ahead and call this a 10/10!
Rating: 10/10
2. Grilled Shrimp Taco
This taco did not come to play. The mix of the well marinated (you can tell by the color) shrimp that wasn’t fishy at all, the cotija cheese that's so subtle and stays in its lane & their lettuce and carrot slaw mixed with the best pickled onions I’ve ever had.
It was all looped in with a cilantro cream.
So much flavor, Check!
A bit of sweetness from the slaw, Check!
A perfect amount of the chipotle mayo every pescatarian taco needs, Check! (Chipotle Mayo to fish/shrimp tacos is like ketchup to anything potato lol)
9/10 promise you've never had a taco with this mix of flavors. Different but AMAZING!
Rating: 9/10
3. Fried Fish Taco
For starters, this picture alone made me want to order another one.
This taco was simpler than the others which worked well for it because the fish was WELL seasoned. Once again, don't let me find that secret coating formula. The coating on the fish was a bit lighter than the shrimp.
Each bite was a soft white fillet in a coat with a hint of lime. It mixed very well with the pico and chipotle Mayo (you know how I feel about chipotle mayo). Lettuce gave it an extra crunch, while the tomatoes were juicy and tasted fresh.
In this case less was more, because I was a fan of this taco. 8.2/10!
Rating: 8.2/10
I'd be surprised if you made it this for without driving your car, booking a flight, or chartering a boat to the nearest El Jeffe. (El Jeffe Modern Mexican Grill)
This post was all about taking your taste buds on a journey to some of the best tacos in Brooklyn and maybe the best black owned taco spot in Brooklyn at El Jeffe.
Have you tried any of these locations? Let me know if there are tacos near me I should try.
